(Oakland, CA) — Earthseed Remnants, a group exhibition co-curated by JyJimmie Gabiola and Lynse Cooper, on view August 14 through September 18, 2026 presented at ARTogether Gallery in Oakland. Earthseed Remnants is an exhibition about endurance — not despite grief and displacement, but through it. Drawing from Octavia Butler‘s Earthseed framework for survival, transformation, and planting futures in hostile soil, the show reframes what a remnant can be: not ruin, but intention. Cloth, seed, image, signal, memory. What we carry forward when the structures around us were not built to remember us.
Co-curated by Lynse Cooper, a photographer whose practice centers death, decay, and what survives loss, and Jy Jimmie Gabiola, a Filipino futurist working in counter-archival, lens-based practice — Earthseed Remnants brings together Black and Brown artists working across photography, video, immersive installation, and mixed media. Shown at ARTogether, an Oakland nonprofit building belonging for refugees, immigrants, and diasporic communities, the exhibition takes that mission seriously. The work doesn't ask to be explained. It asks to be felt.

About the Curators
Earthseed Remnants is co-curated by JyJimmie Gabiola and Lynse Cooper. Gabiola is an Oakland-based Filipino futurist working in counter-archival, lens-based practice — engaging diaspora memory, familial archives, and the futures carried in what remains. Cooper is a Northern California photographer whose practice centers death, grief, and what survives loss; she is a recipient of the SF Camerawork Forecast Jurors Prize and the Murphy & Cadogan Contemporary Art Award. They met at California College of the Arts and have since shared the exhibition floor in Archives Yet to Come at Berkeley Art Center (2025). Together they bring to Earthseed Remnants a shared commitment to material trace, cultural endurance, and art.
